Her journey into activism began from personal tragedy—after her 13-year-old son Michael was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, she herself was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1986, just one week before his passing. Fueled by a mother’s love, she transformed grief into advocacy, eventually becoming Executive Director of Hewlett House, a center operated by the nonprofit 1 in 9: The Long Island Breast Cancer Coalition.
